Her writing is a juicy blend of self-irony, absurdist humor, and emotional x-rays of the millennial psyche – those who wanted to be cosmopolitan but still carry a bit of tenderness and unfinished sentences. Truścińska pulls taboo and micro-dramas into the light, moving fluidly between short stories and graphic narratives, as if whispering: “Look, it doesn’t have to be serious to be true.” Her texts are often charming and sad, funny and painfully honest – like a blog post written half-awake at 2 a.m., yet perfectly crafted.
Once, on a literary blog, I stumbled upon a piece about Adelka (Adelka being the author’s porte-parole). I fell in love with the style and knew right away I wanted a sample of it on our website. I thought for a moment about what to “hitch” it to – and Jacek Cyganek’s paintings felt like the perfect match. What do they have in common? A sense of the absurdity of so-called social life. And total, existential and environmental outsiderdom. Also? They're not expensive.
Awards and Recognitions: Homines Urbani Fellowship, Kraków (2008), Finalist for the Gdynia Literary Prize for Życie Adelki (Adelka’s Life, 2019).
