• Katarzyna Swinarska

  Born in Gdańsk in 1969, graduated the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, painting diploma supervised by prof. Kiejstut Bereźnicki in 1993.

• Expression and realism – the conspicuous beauty and insouciance of the models in Katarzyna Swinarska’s paintings is there only to disguise emotional tension and, quite often, very intense sexual undertones. Hidden behind an air of youthful nonchalance, the artist expresses the truth about her ‘self’. Vigorously painted works are records of her emotional states. She prefers to paint women – girls that resemble those from French New Wave movies or sometimes from MTV video clips. Anonymous faces and situations seen on a tram, in a cafe or simply found online end up in the painting. A Gioconda of our times is parking her jeep in front of the supermarket.
