Piotr Bukowski is a painter of mood, an observer of nature with an inclination for contemplation, reflection, and intimacy of outlook, who often expands themes into series (e.g. cinemas, landscapes). When talking about his masters, he points to Maurice Utrillo, James Whistler and Edward Hopper. Lately he has been interested mostly in urban landscape and water – coasts, lakes. Light-soaked and colour-saturated landscapes are usually desolate and an occasional human figure plays the role of an extra. These paintings are a far cry from realism. Bukowski does not take photos, but he never parts with his notepad.
