Dariusz Suska
Dariusz Suska (b. 1968 in Złotoryja) – a poet and physicist by training, graduate of the University of Warsaw. Once upon a time, he studied cosmic radiation; today, he’s more interested in what’s fleeting and ordinary: the scent of childhood, the grimace of tenderness, the glow of the fridge light at four in the morning.

His poems blend precision with lyrical tremor – like matchsticks: small, but capable of setting the heart ablaze. He’s ironic at times, but never cynical. He writes as if he wanted to save things from oblivion, even though he knows full well it’s impossible. For our gallery, he penned a deeply moving essay on Edward Dwurnik’s drawings, in which – with his trademark empathy – he discovered a tenderness for a flawed but life-hungry reality, and subtle signals of its disintegration and passing.
Awards and distinctions: K.I. Gałczyński Poetry Prize (2009), Gdynia Literary Award – nominee (2014), Wisława Szymborska Award – nominee (2019), Distinction in the R.M. Rilke Competition, Scholarship from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
