A classic poster regains its impact – Zawadzka’s style of design has already become recognizable. She believes that a design should be clean and ‘invisible’. The colour: black, at best, occasionally red and a pale purple of a blueprint. The form is reduced to the necessary minimum. A human being in Monika Zawadzka’s art is reduced to a simple sign, an ‘anonymous person’ – a dark colour stain stripped of any individual features. Concise and brief means intensify the strength of the interaction of a design especially that the artist chooses the most personal subjects, deeply penetrating the intimacy – she shows physical pain, surgical scars, lovers during an intercourse. Thanks to generic, standard forms she demonstrates that what she portrays regards us too.
