Her art is characterised by colour and clear composition. She began with figurative motifs and gradually drifted towards pure abstraction. Prior to reaching the stage of synthetic geometric shapes, she had successively been simplifying her composition by painting singular motifs and arranging them in a kind of decorative carpet of tapestry, recording mantras and drawings of mandorla in her paintings. Despite its purity and the rigours of composition, Joanna Stańko’s abstraction is extremely sensual. The colourful shapes that penetrate one another form new constellations, unexpected configurations, resulting in half colours, half tones and half shades.
