The compositions made of small cubes of colour resemble colorful luminous mosaics. The form of Zofia Matuszczyk-Cygańska’s paintings is made of the colour only – each stroke of paint on the canvas is intentional, precise and mathematically calculated. The artist avoids the impression of colour monotony; she compiles and enriches the colour range of a single tone. As a result the painting is pulsating with colour, pointillistic. In a mass of flickering colour cubes some lighter shapes – of a circle, a square or a star, can be distinguished in the background. Structurally, her paintings resemble arrases. The artist’s perennial career has been evolving in two directions: painting and tapestry.
