Artists of the Gallery Art: Maria Kiesner
Born in 1976 in Warsaw. Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Graduated in 2002 under tutorage of Jaroslaw Modzelewski.
According to Maria Kiesner
buildings have pathos, eeriness and melancholyand her vedute – townscapes are personifications of those decadent moods. Instead of painting from life she does it from postcards, photographs and illustrations from architecture publications. She constructs the painting proportions like the 17th century Dutch masters of townscapes – lots of sky, little ground. Empty towns – old factory halls, chimneys and skyscrapers look like paper mock-ups and the colour range limited to grays, blacks and browns magnifies this look.
