In the light of trees, in the colour of corals...

Trees – corals. So colouristically exotic in the Polish landscape, and yet of familiar, almost Mazovian shapes… Phenomenal pseudo-willows, artefact-like organisms glaring with internal energy. A colourful colony of luminous quasi-botanical specimens.

Let’s go to sleep!

The Night of Museums disrupts our sleep pattern. Instead of heading for bed, we are queuing, yawning incessantly..

or mooning with grainy eyelids around art galleries. Our eyes can barely see anything, but the art won’t give up. Following the national programme of encouraging our fellow countrymen to experience art, Galeria Art perversely exhibits the portraits of sleeping people by Katarzyna Karpowicz. Do not let Maria Skłodowska–Curie get yawny! Maria
wants to sleep!

Curled up on bare ground, under navy blue skies, lulled by the silence of the night, the characters in Kasia Karpowicz’s paintings are calm and safe – locked in their own world of dreams. Meditative, oneiric pictures have their symbolic depth, the rhythm of a placid breath of a sleeping girl, a man, an animal. The stories that we see are more of an interval than actual life itself. Life may return there once sleep is over. Or even better, all the action takes place under the eyelids of the sleeping. The stories about existence, fairy tales with a secret, lullabies with a metaphorical key.
